Job Title: Production Scientist                   

Job Type: Full-Time

Location: Pullman, WA

 

Description

The Production Scientist takes the lead role in VMRD product manufacturing.  The extensive technical knowledge and experience required for this position serves as a resource for colleagues and managers alike.  Good work and study habits, keen attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and mentoring abilities are essential for success in this position.  As a senior-level technical position, this role presents an excellent opportunity to share the benefits of experience with team members and to play an integral part in the success of VMRD's manufacturing organization as a whole.

 

Responsibilities

  • ELISA kit production (plate coating, optimization)
  • Cell culture, virus culture, bacterial culture, culture of microorganisms
  • Protein purification:  Salt precipitation, ion exchange chromatography, size restriction, affinity matrix
  • Protein evaluation: BCA quantitation, spectrophotometric analysis
  • Protein conjugation:  HRP, FITC
  • Making buffers, sterile filtration, making dilutions, making pools, making aliquots
  • Running and interpreting assays:  IFA, AGID, ELISA, RID
  • In-process quality control and monitoring
  • Packaging and labeling product
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of work performed
  • Calibrating, operating and maintaining equipment
  • Developing and updating SOPs as needed
  • Analyzing and interpreting data
  • Troubleshooting and identifying areas for process improvement
  • Adhering to internal policies and regulatory guidelines
  • Mentoring Production Assistants and Production Scientists
  • Working with R&D to transfer new technology
  • Other duties as assigned

  • BS in biological science field; advanced degree preferred
